Drew Brees throws at least 40 touchdowns

Drew Brees has thrown for 40 touchdowns twice in a season. He’s been three touchdowns shy of the threshold two times as well.

Those were the 2011 and 2012 seasons, the ones in which he threw for over 40. Both of those seasons, the future first-ballot Hall of Famer led the league in the category, but he also managed to lead the league in passing yards.

Eclipsing over 5,100 yards and 42 touchdowns in both seasons, those will likely go down as the best years of his career. In 2020, there will be no reason he can’t get back to that level.

While he is 41 years old, Brees has consistently been one of the best quarterbacks in the league while he’s aged. Just a season ago, he led the league in completion percentage and also threw for 27 touchdowns, almost nearing 3,000 yards as well.

With Jared Cook coming on late in the season and hopefully carrying that momentum into 2020 and the addition of Emmanuel Sanders, Brees should be able to have an elite season. 40 touchdowns will be a challenge, but it’s certainly doable for Brees.
