2. Releasing Larry Warford after drafting Cesar Ruiz

When it came time for the NFL Draft, the Saints had little spots on their roster where a rookie would improve them. The majority of fans and onlookers thought for sure that the Saints would go with a linebacker with the first pick.

With Patrick Queen still on the board with the No. 24 pick, it was everything that the Saints wanted. Of course, they would select him or if they didn’t, they would at least select from the deep receiver class.

However, the Saints went completely out in the left-field and selected an offensive lineman with their first-round pick. The team already had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL so this was an odd pick that ended up being glorious.

Second, only to Drew Brees, Larry Warford was making the second most per year on the team. They basically used Ruiz to swap out with Larry Warford and ended up saving $8 million that will go to bettering the team in other areas.
