3. Letting Vonn Bell leave the Saints and signing Malcolm Jenkins

Vonn Bell was considered one of the cornerstones of the Saints secondary last year. The secondary was nothing to be proud of, but Vonn Bell’s play at the safety position salvaged some of their reputations.

However, it was time to pay Vonn Bell the big money or let him go. They inevitably made the hard decision to let Bell walk and save the money they would have had to pay him. Now, this would have been one of the worst moves of the offseason if it wasn’t for the second part.

Shortly before Vonn Bell signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Saints made it clear that they weren’t going to make him an offer by signing his replacement Malcolm Jenkins from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not only is Jenkins the cheaper option, he already spent time with the Saints, Sean Payton, and Drew Brees years ago before he went to the Eagles. He already knows the system and he played at a high-level last year with the Eagles. They turned a bad loss into a good gain.
