The New Orleans Saints traded up in the third round to select Wisconsin linebacker Zack Baun, what does that mean for the future of Kiko Alonso?

After a tremendous offseason capped off by a terrific draft, the New Orleans Saints will be primed for another terrific season and are projected to once again reign over the NFC South. That said, will the team’s second pick in said draft start on Week 1?

Kiko Alonso only has one more year left on his current contract with the New Orleans Saints after the team acquired him from the Miami Dolphins last season. He played well in his first season in the Big Easy, but his time as a starter may be running low.

However, there’s no denying that Alonso will have the opportunity to fight for his spot, battling the third-round pick which the team traded quite a bit for.

That said, Alonso is also one of the cheaper players on the team as he agreed to a pay cut to remain on the roster for the 2020 season. All eyes are on Baun to be the next star linebacker for the Saints.

With most of the team’s linebacking corps hitting the market next offseason, here are three reasons why Baun should replace Kiko Alonso.
