Guard – Nick Easton and Cesar Ruiz

This is one of those battles that no one wants to see. A first-round pick going up against a veteran. How could you ever choose between those? However, there are multiple ways that this battle could shape out.

Firstly, the New Orleans Saints could decide they no longer want to continue to pay Easton to sit the bench and end up trading him. If they trade him then there is no more position battle to worry about for Ruiz.

Secondly, the Saints could decide that Ruiz is not ready to take over for Easton and decide to start Easton at the beginning of the year. If this is the case, I still think Ruiz takes over the job by the end of the season.

The last way this could shape out is if they decide to keep both and actually have a position battle. If so it will be one of the most intriguing battles to watch out for as the Saints prepare to take the field this season.

Andrus Peat, who was underwhelming last season, could also be a candidate to watch Ruiz take over, but that’s doubtful.
