Monetary Value

If the New Orleans Saints keep Warford going into this coming season, he is set to make just under $13 million. He will become the second-highest-paid player on the team being just quarterback Drew Brees.

If the Saints were to release him prior to the season starting, he would have a dead cap hit of $5.125 million. Now, I know most people wouldn’t justify paying a player for not even being on the team, but it makes sense to save almost $8 million on him.

$8 million that the Saints need to pay rookies Cesar Ruiz, Adam Trautman, and Zack Baun. $8 million that the Saints could use to entice another free agent to come and make them stronger in other areas of the team.

All-in-all, it makes more sense for the New Orleans Saints to cut him and take the cap hit of $5.13 million than to have him be a backup offensive lineman making $13 million. Monetarily, they need to go elsewhere at the present time.
