Gas in The Tank

Jameis Winston isn’t great at football right now.

But he’s not as awful as he’s often vilified into being. In Bruce Arian’s offense, Winston was expected to rocket the ball downfield as often as possible. This lead to his regularly throwing the ball a whopping amount, including the 2019 season, where he attempted 626 passes.

It doesn’t matter how strong-willed of a young man you are. Throwing the ball at that high of a frequency is going to create a lot of room for error, and those errors are going to test your confidence.

Winston is still 26 years old, and remains one of the league’s premier talents at extending plays with his legs. Behind the Saints’ steely offensive line and armed with a fresh pair of eyes, Winston should be able to return to the rookie quarterback who set nearly every Buccaneers rookie passing record.

In Sean Payton’s offense, and in the Saint’s electric locker room, Winston should feel rejuvenated. Throwing short chunky passes and being able to rely on a solid run game should quickly restore his belief in his ability to lead a team.
