TE, Jared Cook

Another surprising draft choice this year for the New Orleans Saints was Adam Trautman, a tight end from the University of Dayton. The 6-foot-5 oversized wide receiver was the second-best tight end according to Mel Kiper.

Now, this might not necessarily mean that Jared Cook is on his way out, but that could be the inclination. Cook is in his eleventh season and is coming to the end of his career.

Trautman is just starting his and was a better value than most believe.

I could see Sean Payton keeping Cook around until next year and letting Trautman learn under him and using a two tight-end approach to give Brees more options in his last season. However, I could also see the Saints looking to shop Cook.

Trautman’s salary is going to inevitably be a lot less than what Jared Cook is reeling in. It could be beneficial to save some cap space if the Saints were to look to shop Cook for draft picks in the coming offseason.
