Number One: Kiko Alonso

Kiko Alonso is one of the more likely candidates to be cut this offseason.

Alonso, 29, is coming off an ACL tear which at his age is no easy accomplishment. In an offseason likely cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, Alonso will struggle to get back on track for the start of the 2020 season.

Alonso was also rather unproductive in his first year in the Big Easy, racking up just 31 tackles.

If you pair his lackluster play with the realization he has just one year left on his current contract (although he did restructure his contract to save the team money), it’s looking likely that the Saints will simply release the aging linebacker in favor of the new talent they recently brought in.

The Saints recently brought in two new linebackers — Zack Baun who was drafted by the Saints in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and Joe Bachie Jr who was signed as an undrafted free agent following the draft’s conclusion.

Both rookies have a great shot at making the final 53-man roster and could ultimately be the reason Kiko Alonso gets released or traded yet again.
