Signed Mike Burton: B

Following the retirement of the New Orleans Saints’ starting fullback Zach Line, the Saints needed to find a replacement.

The Saints currently have Ricky Ortiz on the roster who replaced Line when he was injured late last season. The Saints also signed veteran fullback Michael Burton to compete for the starting job.

Burton, 28, was a fifth-round pick back in 2015 by the Detroit Lions and has always been known as a tremendous blocker with great hands. Burton has bounced around the league quite a bit since 2015, playing for the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints (preseason), and Washington Redskins.

In a private interview I held with Burton, he told me that Zach Line helped teach him quite a bit when he was with the Saints last preseason and that he looks forward to playing for a team who truly values the fullback position.

Burton has nine receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown in his NFL career to date. Burton will bring his incredible football knowledge and hard-nosed mentality to the New Orleans Saints.
