New Orleans Saints Trade Rumors: 3 targets to consider this offseason
Number Two: Darius Slay
Darius Slay is a cornerback for the Detroit Lions and has been since his arrival in the NFL as a second-round draft pick back in 2013.
Slay, 29, has been known as one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks and has always been a star for the underwhelming Detroit Lions, having just two playoff appearances in his tenure.
Matt Patricia is starting to revamp his team as he has already released defensive tackle Damon Harrison and will likely cut more guys to create cap space. He’s molding this team to how he wants it to be, and Slay doesn’t look to be in the long-term plans.
The Lions are also likely to draft Slay’s replacement third overall in the 2020 NFL Draft as Jeff Okudah has been linked to Detroit all offseason.
Slay, a three-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro in 2017, has started every game he’s ever played in and has only missed nine games in seven years.
On his career, he has 347 tackles, 19 interceptions, 104 passes defended, and one defensive touchdown, and his stats will likely increase on a better team.
Darius Slay is slated to become a free agent in 2021 and his price tag may not be all that expensive as he has one year left on his contract and is 29 years old. The Saints could use some depth at the cornerback position and Darius Slay is about as good as they get.
