How much do they pay No. 9?

In 2018, Drew Brees signed a 2-year, $50 million deal to stay the starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. He also carried with him a dead cap hit of $45 million into that contract that he is currently coming off of.

Drew Brees is set to become an unrestricted free agent during this 2020 period. He has already stated two things: 1) He will only play with the black and gold if he comes back next year, and 2) he is coming back to play at least one more season.

The only question remaining is how much the New Orleans Saints can afford to pay the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback. I can tell you one thing, he can not afford the Saints to continue making close to $25 million per year.

He is still owed $21.3 million next year by the Saints even if he doesn’t play a snap for them — it is his dead money contract hit. I believe the Saints should go all in at another Super Bowl ring for Drew Brees before he retires, but that will take Drew signing a one-year for less than $20 million.
