With Brees’ return, the New Orleans Saints should go all out for a Super Bowl

The New Orleans Saints have a bit of a salary cap casualty in the 2020 offseason.

But, with the announcement of Drew Brees’ return, the New Orleans Saints need to push their cap situation to a future year and go into a serious win-now mode by signing some high-quality free agents that will impact the team in multiple ways.

That said, let’s dive into a three-step plan to enhance their odds in 2020.

Number One: WR Emmanuel Sanders

Yes, it’s hard to believe, but Emmanuel Sanders has been in the NFL since 2010. He would be a great short-term option for the win-now Saints. Despite Sanders being almost 33 years old, he is still one of the best route runners in the NFL and has some of the best hands in the league as well.

Sanders, a two-time Pro-Bowler, hauled in 66 receptions for 869 yards and five touchdowns in 2019 while completely revamping the San Francisco 49ers receiving corps. Sanders had only one drop in the 2019 campaign and proved he can still play at a high level.

Sanders, who was ranked as Pro Football Focus’ number 27 overall free agent in the 2020 class, would bring a great veteran presence to the Saints. The team will likely be using the draft to acquire some young talent at the wide receiver position as well.

Adding Emmanuel Sanders to burn corners over the top while Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and Jared Cook torch guys in the mid-range area would make for an elite addition to an already high-octane offense.

Sanders wouldn’t be a long-term option, but I could see him being extremely productive in New Orleans on a two-year deal.
