Black on Gold

The black and gold uniforms come in ranked No. 3 this year. The black jerseys with gold pants are a historical combination of uniforms. The first jerseys the New Orleans Saints ever wore were a black and gold combination.

The New Orleans Saints wore black jerseys and gold pants for their home uniform until 1974 when they switched to alternating black and white pants. Then in 1986, they brought back the black on gold combination.

They have worn them ever since, except for 2001 when they wore all black. These sets will forever be the definition of the New Orleans Saints — black and gold. I like the emphasis of the gold more on the pants than the black on black which was a close fourth.

The history behind these uniforms is what put them one rank higher than the all black on black combination that they also have in their sets. I hope to see this combination in Saints’ uniforms for years to come.
