SamMills. player. . Linebacker. 1986-1994. 10. 15.

Sam Mills was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1986 and played with them until 1994. He went to the Carolina Panthers in 1995 and finished out his career there till 1997. He was selected to five Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro in his 12 years.

Sam Mills was one of the smallest linebackers the Saints have ever had standing at 5′ 9″; however, he never let his size get the best of him or his energy on the field. In Mills’ nine years with the Saints, he tallied up 11 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, 17 fumble recoveries.

He also added almost 1,000 tackles to those numbers. He went down in Saints’ history as No. 4 in fumbles recoveries and No. 5 in forced fumbles.

Sam Mills came on the heels of some of the New Orleans Saints’ best linebackers in history and proved to continue the tradition. The “Dome Patrol” linebacking core name lived on through Mills into the early 1990s.
