Linebacker. VaughanJohnson. 19. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 15. 1986-1993

Vaughan Johnson joins Frank Warren as another founding member of the old Saints’ defense called the “Dome Patrol.” Johnson played with the New Orleans Saints from 1986-1993. Johnson finished the last year of his career in Philadelphia before retiring.

The reason for Vaughan Johnson being so high on this list is something that stats can not show. Johnson helped lead the Saints to their first winning season (1987) since the team originated in 1967. They went 12-3 that year and made the playoffs.

The 1987 team changed the course of history for the New Orleans Saints. They proved that the Saints could be a winning organization. The “Dome Patrol” linebacker core put the entire NFL on a watch that they were not to be messed with.

Throughout Johnson’s career, the New Orleans Saints never had a losing season. He helped completely change the culture. Johnson is ranked No. 3 in Saints’ history in tackles and finished his career with 12.0 sacks.
