New Orleans Saints: How to solve the team’s quarterback conundrum
By Tony Twillie
Verdict?
Is there a scenario where all three return?
Yes, and it’s not far-fetched. Hill is simple – sign him. Pay him $4 million.
He’s worth that and more and is a steal if that’s what you’re paying him. Brees wants to play, we’d rather have him than have to face him. He’s not retiring so other than retirement, it’s a terrible play to not have him finish his career a Saint.
Teddy’s the hardest of the three because of the value and the options.
But if he’s not going to seriously get a starting nod somewhere, and the offers to be a backup aren’t to his liking, he could stay here another year and play the wait and see game one more time. His money would be the most difficult to calculate from the standpoint of keeping him.
And if Bridgewater leaves, don’t get so caught up in the idea of Hill being the backup. Note that when Brees went out with the injury and Hill became the backup, Hill’s touches and contributions went down a lot.
They couldn’t risk losing him also. The Saints would go and find another veteran backup who could allow Hill to continue to play football. Ahem… Chase Daniel is slated to be an unrestricted free agent in March.
So the Saints have options and decisions. Quarterback is the biggest, but it’s just the start.
