24th overall pick – CB/S, Xavier McKinney, Alabama Crimson Tide

Let’s just say for the sake of this mock draft that LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton and Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs are both off of the board by the time the New Orleans Saints pick at the No. 24 spot in the draft.

The New Orleans Saints need to let starting cornerback Eli Apple walk in free agency. They signed veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins from the Giants after he was cut. Jenkins could be the starter if he is retained next year, but he is not the future.

McKinney played three years at the University of Alabama and appeared in 41 games. McKinney recorded 95 total tackles as a junior to go along with three sacks, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles with one recovered.

McKinney was a versatile forced for the Crimson Tide this year and could do the same for the New Orleans Saints. The secondary was one of the weakest parts of the Saints team, and McKinney could turn that around next year.

According to Walterfootball.com, McKinney is the second-best safety in the class and that skill set should easily translate to cornerback if need be.
