Eli Apple, cornerback

By now, Eli Apple should just be a given. Toward the second half of the season, Apple was blowing every coverage that was thrown at him. He was letting receivers run right by him and he seemed really slow out of a break.

The veteran cornerback from Ohio State University was a great addition in a trade from the New York Giants, but his time in New Orleans has come to a close. In a tight shootout with the San Francisco 49ers in the second half of the season.

Jimmy Garoppolo was throwing the ball at whoever Eli Apple was covering. If it was man coverage and he was on No. 2 receiver Deebo Samuel, he was smoked. If it was zone coverage, the 49ers would like Sanders up on Apple’s side and he didn’t stand a chance.

With guys like Trevon Diggs, C.J. Henderson, and Kristian Fuller in the draft class this year at cornerback, the Saints need to focus their efforts there and replace Apple with a highly talented and moldable young cornerback. Marshon Lattimore deserves more too.
