New Orleans Saints: 3 reasons the team must re-sign safety Vonn Bell
Vonn Bell finished second on the team in tackles in 2019.
Among all defensive backs in the entire NFL (counting safeties and cornerbacks), Vonn Bell finished No. 15 in total tackles. Getting a safety that can make open-field tackles is a severely overlooked skill among defensive backs.
He finished 9th in the NFC and 2nd on the New Orleans Saints team, behind only Demario Davis who had 111 tackles in the regular season. Vonn Bell is a commodity that the Saints got and that they currently have below what he should be getting paid.
That is why it is pertinent that they keep him. He is making roughly $6 million less than his talent level at his position. For the Saints to re-sign him, they are going to need to determine to pay him. They should become he has the talent to lead the league in tackles.
The New Orleans Saints’ weakest link this year was arguably their secondary. It would be foolish to let go of the guy that leads the secondary in tackles, leadership, and has his entire prime years ahead of him.
Vonn Bell is the future of the Saints’ defense.
