Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints crack FanSided’s Fandom 250
Both the New Orleans Saints fanbase and Drew Brees fans were represented in FanSided’s Fandom 250, a ranking of the top fanbases in any genre.
FanSided dropped their Fandom 250. Both New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees were ranked. However, it was so much more than sports as movies, TV shows, actors and much more were there as well.
They were the No. 2 NFL franchise behind the Dallas Cowboys. Yup, you heard that correctly. The Saints fans were ranked more loyal and passionate than those of the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, and the third-place Cleveland Browns.
While all the NFL franchises were filtered separately, the individual sports figures weren’t. Patrick Mahomes came in No. 1 with Zion Williamson as the second-ranked sports figures. Brees barely cracked the rankings as the No. 28-ranked figure.
His fans were just 44 spots away from being left on the list. The future Hall of Famer has a beloved fanbase that has grown to appreciate the quarterback that helped lead New Orleans out of devastation early in the 2010s.
He gave them hope. The Saints gave the city hope.
This season isn’t like many in the past. They’re not struggling; they’re thriving. The Brees-Sean Payton era has seen its fair share of ups and downs, and currently, at 10-3, this season is certainly an up.
Although he’s missed just under half the season with a thumb injury, Brees has been his usual dominant self. On the league’s best pass defense, Brees put up 349 yards and five touchdowns, although the team’s defense gave them little help and the Saints ended up losing the game.
Overall, on the list, Brees is the sixth-ranked quarterback. Mahomes, Tom Brady, Baker Mayfield, Aaron Rodgers, and Kyler Murray all ranked before Brees in that respective order. But, at the very least, Brees’ fanbase was ranked.
The Saints have three games remaining and could easily claim a top-two seed in the NFC if they’re able to win out. If they do, it’ll be on the back of Drew Brees. With both fanbases being ranked, I’d expect to see Michael Thomas on the company’s list in 2020.
