Saints loss; 49ers win

Saints loss

Because the New Orleans Saints have already clinched their division (and were the first team to do so and the only team in 13 weeks to do it) there is no as much at stake for a loss here than there is for the 49ers.

However, a Saints win/loss is more about a first-round bye than it is a spot in the playoffs.

Should the Saints lose this game, they will be tied with the Green Bay Packers (assuming they win) at 10-3 and be in jeopardy of losing that first-round bye. All they need is to beat out the Packers and they have a bye.

A Saints loss here is in no way detrimental to the end goal of winning a Super Bowl.

49ers win

A San Francisco win would prove pivotal for the chances of the 49ers even clinching their own division. The Seattle Seahawks also sit at 10-2 so a win would either put them in the lead in their division or at least keep them on par if the Seahawks were to also win in week 14.

For the playoffs, the 49ers would continue to strive to see a first-round bye. If the Seahawks were to win the division, the 49ers would be relegated to a wild card spot and have to play into the playoffs. A win in this game is much more needed for the 49ers.
