New Orleans Saints could be sellers at the NFL Trade Deadline

The New Orleans Saints are the NFC’s best team and could keep their title chances alive while being sellers at the NFL’s trade deadline.

There’s no denying that even the most diehard New Orleans Saints fans weren’t expecting the team to bounce back and start 5-0 under the leadership of Teddy Bridgewater. However, they’ve proven their depth and dominance at almost every position.

They’ve locked up some of the league’s best offensive teams, holding Dallas to just 10 points. They’re also coming off a Week 7 victory where they put 36 points on one of the NFL’s best defenses.

This team has it all, and they could shed a few pieces and still be the NFC’s best team.

Let’s be reasonable though. I’m not saying the Saints should go out and trade away Michael Thomas or Alvin Kamara. They shouldn’t even consider trading players like Vonn Bell or Marcus Davenport.

When I say the Saints should be sellers, it’s obviously aimed at players that their absence wouldn’t be overly impactful.

Say a player like P.J. Williams could get you a fourth-round pick while you have Patrick Robinson, a player that’s a bit older yet has started 58 games over the course of his career, currently riding the bench. Even Ken Crawley was kept on the team as well yet has seen minimal snaps.

Williams has been great, but if the Saints could get draft capital under a fifth-round pick for him, there’s a case to be made for trading him. The team could even survive at the same level without A.J. Klein, a player that saw under 50% of the defensive snaps for the first time this past week.

The Saints should do absolutely nothing to jeopardize their chances at the first Super Bowl of the decade. But, if it comes down to it, there could be chances for them to be sellers, and there’s no reason to be against trading away a few players in order to stockpile picks.

With just under a week left, the deadline is quickly approaching. We’ve already seen a few trades happen throughout the last couple weeks, but more will likely be on the way as contenders make their final push to get their finalized rosters.

That said, fans, we open to the idea of gaining that much-needed draft capital, although it seems rather unlikely that a trade will be made at all.
