New Orleans’ Ochsner Health System and their relationship with the Saints and their community. Focus on Jarrius Robertson and his role as a Saint.

The New Orleans Saints finished this preseason with an even record of two wins and two losses. But when you look at little closer, they actually came out well ahead of most if not all other teams. And so did Ochsner Health System.

Here’s why: Super-Fan Jarrius Robertson.

First off, how many teams in the NFL and for that matter in the entire league, have an adopted “Super Fan” who is physically challenged?  The Saints, Ochsner, and Jarrius have collectively done more that practically all other organizations in recent sport memory by showcasing a special patient. His fight and willingness to live have made Jarrius an inspiration to kids of all colors and faiths, and throughout the world.

The Saints’ own super fan went on to win an ESPY Award. But the reality of the matter is that it was the Saints and Ochsner Health System who chose to think outside the box and embrace this patient.

Granted, as the following videos will suggest, Jarrius is a super talented young man. He has a great sense of humor and personality to boot. But the reality of the matter is that by embracing him the way they did, the Saints and Ochsner Health System have gone above and beyond. They have called attention on many fronts to various diseases that continue to affect the lives of young people and those who love them. The spotlight on the Saint super fan also brings one brutal and necessary reality home to us, and that is that, without your health, you really have nothing.

Without your health …

Without your health, you have ZERO. I’ll say it again, and perhaps once more before this piece reaches its conclusion. Without one’s health, you really have zero going on. Unless, of course, you are about to pass on at the ripe old age of 90 plus. And have left a lasting impression and legacy on most of the people you have come into contact with for most of your adult life.  In this video, he showed some of that million dollar smile and attitude. He goes on to show his ability to help out Pam Oliver as a reporter on the sideline.

To conclude, kudos to both the New Orleans Saints and Ochsner Health System. They’ve had the vision, compassion, and courage to get behind this young man. This Saints “Super Fan”. For at the end of the day, what stands out about Jarrius is not the physical challenges he has. Nor is it those that may still await him. What stands out about Jarrius is the size off his heart and his two passions: football, and the New Orleans Saints. This video does a great job of showing just that:
