Unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints lost to the Cleveland Browns this past Thursday night. What happened during that game is another story. Among the offensive players that impressed, rookie running back Alvin Kamara certainly raised eyebrows during his first NFL performance.
Highlighted by a shifty 22-yard run, Kamara impressed as he had a day for himself during the preseason opener. He finished the night with 4 attempts for 35 yards. That’s an average of 8.8 yards per carry. His night produced some seriously awesome highlights Saints fans will surely love. Including the one shown below, enjoy Saints fans!
Alvin Kamara’s role with Saints
Kamara was drafted by the Saints in the 3rd round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee. Spectators and Saints coaches alike envision Kamara as a hybrid Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles running back. That is, he’ll be playing the “joker” role in Sean Payton’s scheme.
Similar to what he accomplished in college, Kamara will be utilized in several ways for the Saints. In two seasons at Tennessee, Kamara produced1,294 yards rushing on 210 attempts for 16 touchdowns. Add on 74 catches for 683 yards and seven touchdowns receiving and you see the threat he can be.
Touches may become difficult in a Saints offense that utilizes several key players week to week. In the backfield for instance, they currently have veteran running backs, Adrian Peterson, and Mark Ingram who will be competing for carries.
Although the obstacles may be large, for a dynamic athlete like Kamara, expect his presence to be felt in this Saints offense in 2017.
It may have been only one preseason game, but as it appears right now, Alvin Kamara is doing just fine folks.
