Top 10 New Orleans Saints to watch at training camp: No. 4, Brandon Browner
We continue our series at No.4 with Brandon Browner, a trick the New Orleans Saints pulled out of their hat in free agency. Head coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis worked their magic to sign Browner, who could potentially help transform the club’s cornerback tandem into one of the NFL‘s most dangerous, with him starting alongside Keenan Lewis.
The Saints kick off training camp Wednesday, and Brandon Browner is one the team’s most intriguing prospects. His most recent tenure came with the New England Patriots in 2014, but after refusing to take a pay cut, the Pats reportedly declined to pick up his $2 million option. The 6-foot-4 corner has dealt with injury and suspension issues (nothing too serious) over the past few seasons, but when healthy and well-behaved, he has proven to be a top-tier cover corner.
He is one of the most physical defensive backs in the NFL, but it has also led to a high amount of penalties, which is something that will have to be worked on under the proper care of Sean Payton and company, beginning at camp.

He is a back-to-back Super Bowl champion, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy most recently with the Patriots, and before that with the Seattle Seahawks. In 45 games played, Browner has tallied 142 combined tackles, 45 passes defended, 11 interceptions, three forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns.
Brandon Browner’s man-to-man presence opposite Keenan Lewis could potentially solidify the Saints’ struggling secondary. He should not only help on the field, but he will also help lead in the locker room as a proven veteran. The young guys can learn from Browner, especially second-year corner Stanley Jean-Baptiste, who shares similar physical characteristics with him.
Brandon Browner has a handful of special attributes for fans, coaches and teammates to look forward to — size, physicality, championship experience, and most importantly, his presence as a veteran leader, which is something New Orleans lacked tremendously a season ago.
New Orleans Saints training camp kicks off July 30 at The Greenbrier resort in the mountains of West Virginia. Let’s see what kind of energy, passion and play-making ability Brandon Browner brings to the table.
