Are Saints fans overreacting to Brandon Browner report?
Brandon Browner hasn’t even stepped onto the field with his new team yet. However, the New Orleans Saints‘ free agent acquisition at cornerback is already talking another stint with the Seattle Seahawks once his brand new three-year contract expires down in the Big Easy, according to reports.
Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times made the initial report via Twitter during Richard Sherman‘s charity softball game in Seattle Sunday afternoon at Safeco Field.
Of course, as you can imagine, Brandon Browner’s alleged plans for the future did not stomach well with certain Saints fans, as it was apparently tough news for many to digest. But are certain members of the Who Dat Nation overreacting?
Let’s look at the facts — Browner reportedly told that to a Seattle newspaper. He was also in front of countless fans and former teammates in Seattle Sunday afternoon. He was named to his first and only Pro Bowl team there, and he won his first Super Bowl there. Could it be, that just maybe Brandon Browner was trying to show some respect for the city and organization that gave him his first real shot in the NFL? What do you expect? I can think of several Saints players who would have probably said the same thing if they were in his position with a new team.
Let’s not blow this out of proportion. He agreed to terms with the Saints for a reason — he believes he can win in New Orleans with a strong supporting cast around him. His work ethic is not going to change. That, I can guarantee.
While I can understand the feeling of disrespect from fans of the Black and Gold, I wouldn’t let it ruin my day. Instead, I’d just brush it off and be excited, as the kick-off to training camp is just around the corner.
Brandon Browner has a handful of special attributes for fans, coaches and teammates to look forward to — size, physicality, championship experience, and most importantly, his presence as a veteran leader, which is something New Orleans lacked tremendously a season ago.
New Orleans Saints training camp kicks off July 30 at The Greenbrier resort in the mountains of West Virginia. Let’s see what kind of energy, passion and play-making ability Brandon Browner brings to the table before we are so quick to judge him.
