New Orleans Saints: Courtney Roby, Adrian Arrington And Chris Ivory
By Keith Null
Kick off specialist Courtney Roby has watched his team play from the sideline for the last two and a half weeks after suffering a concussion in week fourteens game against the St. Louis Rams.
The injured occurred while he was attempting to run back a kick in the third quarter. He was hit hard which forced a fumble and during the ensuing scramble for the ball took knee to the neck by fellow teammate Matt Giordano.
Roby lay motionless on the field for several minutes before carted where he was later taken to a local hospital for evaluation. All tests indicated that no actual damage had been done to his neck and he was released the following day.
He now will not get the chance to return to the filed this season as the Saints announced today that the have placed him on the injured reserve list. It’s a move no one expected as Roby has been cleared by team and independent doctor’s to play and had been practicing with the team in full this week.
Wide receiver Adrian Arrington has been promoted from the practice squad to tale Roby’s place on the active roster.
Arrington was drafted by the Saints in the seventh round of the 2008 draft out of Michigan University and while he has shined in the preseason since has never quite been able to break through and earn a spot on the teams active roster.
He did however spend time on the active roster in the playoffs last season when he was brought up from the practice squad before the NFC Championship game, he also watched the Saints Super Bowl win from the sidelines.
Running back Chris Ivory is still being bothered by a tight ham string which has kept him out of the last two games. Originally he suffered the injury after rushing for 47 yards on seven carries against the Rams.
So far this season he has rushed for 683 yards and has averaged a respectable 5.3 yards per carry average scoring all five of his touchdowns since the Saints return from their bye in week eleven.
Saints coaches race about his combination of speed and power and it appears they have struck gold once again considering Ivory went undrafted out of Tiffin University.
The good news is that even tough his hamstring continues to be an issue he is practicing with the team in full as is running back Reggie Bush after being slammed to the ground during a punt return against the Falcons. Ivory’s status remains questionable for the Buccaneers although there is a good chance he will play.
Tight end David Thomas (knee), tight end Jeremy Shockey (knee), wide receiver Marques Colston (knee), linebacker Anthony Waters (ankle) and defensive lineman Tony Hargrove (knee) all were held out of practice Thursday.
