New Orleans Saints Tinker With Roster Heading Into 49ers Game
By Keith Null
It’s nothing new for the Saints front office as they are more than accustomed at this point to signing and releasing players throughout the course of the season barring what personnel they will need for any given opponet.
Last week they released veteran cornerback Leigh Torrence to make a roster spot for second year linebacker K.C. Asiodu before the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Now the Saints have reversed the move and resigned Torrence only to release Asiodu heading into their Monday Night Football game with the San Francisco 49ers.
Asiodu was signed by the Saints late in training camp after the release of veteran linebacker and special teams captain Troy Evans. Asiodu was to provide depth in the linebacking core and contribute on special teams.
Torrence has been with the Saints since being claimed off of waivers from the Washington Redskins in 2008 and has appeared in 12 games making 19 tackles, 2 pass deflections and .5 sacks.
Primarily he is used on special teams but is listed as the fifth corner on the roster behind Greer, Porter, Gay and Robinson seeing defensive action in nickel and dime formations.
No word on of Asiodu will be brought back at a later time but knowing the Saints he most likely will be back with team at some point this season.
