Linebacker K.C. Asiodu Signs With Saints For Depth, Special Teams

facebooktwitterreddit

A day after the release of veteran linebacker and former special teams captain Troy Evans  the Saints have signed second year linebacker K.C. Asiodu (6 -2 242)  formerly of the St. Louis Rams.

Asiodu was an undrafted rookie last season and was signed by the Rams and cut in the final roster trim before being resigned to the practice squad.

He bounced from the practice squad to the active roster making eight tackles last year, he was released this June.

It seems unusual the Saints would essentially replace a veteran linebacker like Evans with an unproven player  such as Asiodu but its apparent the team feels he is the better, younger and more athletic of the two.

Given the Saints recent troubles covering kicks and special punts Asiodu will primarily contribute on special teams. Coach Payton however has said that he will work exclusively at strong side linebacker with the defense and if he sticks seems primes for a backup role heading into the 2010 season.
