New Orleans Saints: Draft Prospect Al Woods Says “Meeting With Saints Was A Dream Come True”
By Keith Null
The Saints, like most NFL teams, are continuing to schedule meetings with potential draft prospects in preparation for the upcoming NFL draft starting Thursday April 22nd and running until Saturday April 24th.
This time they called up local LSU defensive tackle Al Woods for a meet and greet and although it is very difficult to place any real meaning on these visits it appears the Saints could target him somewhere in the third round.
Woods is quickly rising up draft boards after impressive off-season workouts and it remains a solid possibility he could go as high the second round, currently he is ranked as the 81st best prospect overall and the 11th best defensive tackle in the draft.
In four seasons at LSU Woods was primarily a backup seeing playing time in 40 games but leading into the end of the 2008 season saw an increase in playing time starting 15 of 22 games for the Tigers through the 2009 season.
He finishes his career at LSU tallying 70 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 pass deflections.
After his visit Woods, a sponsored athlete via LockerBlogger.com, posted his feelings regarding his pre-draft visit with the Super Bowl XLIV Champs.
"You might have heard this already, but I got a great surprise the other day: The New Orleans Saints called and asked me to pay them a visit! The call totally came in right outta the blue – I wasn’t expecting it AT ALL. I was hangin’ outside, not doing anything in particular, and then the phone rang with the good news. Crazy, right? Immediately after I hung up with the Saints, I got right back on the phone and started dialing up my friends and family (who are also HUGE fans of New Orleans). I was like, “Maaaaaaan! The New Orleans Saints just called me in for a visit!” And, just as I anticipated, they all freaked out just as much as I did. Never have I had so much fun on the phone. After a sleepless night, I woke up and drove on over to NOLA, where I met with Mr. Sean Payton, the Saint’s defensive line coach, and a number of other great, great people. We all had some great conversation for about forty minutes, checked out their spectacular facilities, and, all in all, had an amazing time with one another. They have such a great organization, and I know I’d fit in perfectly with this team I’ve loved for as long as I can remember.CAN I GET’UH WHO DAT!?!"
