Indianapolis Colts looking at New Orleans Saints Rick Reiprish for GM

A key member of the Saints’ player personnel department, Director of College Scouting Rick Reiprish, has been targeted as a potential candidate by the Indianapolis Colts to interview for their vacant GM position.

Reiprish has been with the Saints since 2004, and is the man responsible for bringing in most all of the Saints talent, whether drafted or not.

Over recent years the Saints have become known as one of the NFL’s healthiest franchises as well as garnering a reputation for not only drafting well, but digging up the late round “gems” and undrafted rookies.

Players such as running backs Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory, quarterback Chase Daniel, wide receiver Lance Moore, and linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar all stand as shining examples of undrafted talent on the roster that Reiprish and his staff helped uncover.

Indianapolis is of course in re-building mode after a disastrous 2-14 season, prompting owner Jim Irsay to fire long time personnel executive and friend Bill Polian, and general manager Chris Polian, Bill’s son.

Besides their interest in Reiprish it’s been reported that Irsay and the Colts have already interviewed in-house director of player personnel Tom Telesco, so far the only internal candidate to receive consideration.

Externally they hope to speak with Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead and their director of college scouting David Caldwell, Eagles director of player personnel Ryan Grigson and Jim Popp, Cowboys director of scouting Tom Ciskowski, and the Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross among others.

The first candidate the Colts pursued for their vacant general manager’s job was New England’s director of player personnel Nick Caserio, but the Patriots quickly convinced Caserio not to cross “enemy” lines.

New Orleans certainly does not want to lose Reiprish, not to anyone, and that certainly includes a Colts team they could meet down the road in the regular season, or perhaps worse in the Super Bowl.

The Saints have not spoken up with an answer as of yet on if they will even let Reiprish speak to the Colts, but it’s likely they will out of respect for him and his future in the NFL.

But the Saints are probably hoping that the Colts fall in love with one of the other candidates so Reiprish can remain with the team for the foreseeable future — after all he has helped assemble championship caliber rosters — and the team is once again staring down a championship.
