How hard is it to beat the Saints in the Superdome? They’re 4-0 at home and they entered Thursday as one of only three teams left in the NFL who were undefeated at home this season. New Orleans historically has not been a kind host to the Lions, who have not won there since 2000 and have a 2-7 record in the (Not So) Big Easy.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton gave his team the entire week off during the open date. The team returned to practice this week refreshed and healthy. However, there are still a few names on the latest injury report.

The Saints sit in the third position in the NFC. They could just as easily be in the fifth, sixth or seventh spot. But with the New York Giants coming to town Monday night and the Detroit Lions the following Sunday, both NFC opponents, the time is now to begin circling the playoff seeding wagon.

Make no mistake: The Giants likely won’t be looking past New Orleans. New York faces the undefeated Green Bay Packers next week, while quarterback Eli Manning tries to fend off the New York media’s ceaseless questions about what’s wrong with the Giants.

Archie Manning, perhaps the most prominent New Orleans citizen before the arrival of Drew Brees in 2006, will be featured in the opening of “Monday Night Football.’’ It’s a natural because the Saints are hosting the New York Giants. Manning played quarterback for the Saints and raised two NFL quarterbacks, who grew up in New Orleans.
