New Orleans Saints: 2011 Hall Of Fame Pro-Am Golf Scramble

The Who Dat nation came out in droves this past Friday to meet with the newest Saints players being introduced into the Louisiana Sports Hall Of Fame.

The names mentioned during the intros brought back memories of games in which you remember vividly, like it happened yesterday. There were past and present inductees present for the Encana Hall of Fame golf Scramble being held at Oak-wing Golf Course in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Of the 2011 inductees included former Saints greats Morten Anderson, Buford Jordan, and Vaughan Johnson, as well as other great Louisiana sports figures like T.P “Skipper” Heard, Don Shows, Donald “Slick” Watts, Kyla Hall Holas and retired pro baseball and LSU favorite second baseman Todd Walker.

There was a brief moment when I had a chance to ask Vaughan Johnson about being inducted, he said “This is one of highest achievements to being recognized by his peers and being inducted into the hall.”

He also mentioned that although he wasn’t part of the Saints team that won the Superbowl, he is a Saint for life. New Orleans will always be part of of his life and he still follows them to this day maintaining close ties with several players and coaches.

I introduced myself to Buford Jordan, he said “Hey my name is Paul too”, I asked him why he didn’t go by the name Paul instead of Buford, to which he replied because, “My mother always called me Buford and it stuck.”

I have to say, after meeting and getting the chance to get their perspective on the ongoing lockout, life after football and just life in general, you really get to see why they are being inducted to the Hall, they just ooze with controlled confidence and charisma.

I really enjoyed talking to all of them. Saints great Morten Anderson was a barrel of laughs, he was constantly cutting up and just enjoying being there.

I got so wrapped up talking and listening to their stories, I completely forgot to get any autographs. I have to say, anyone reading this article who ever gets the chance to attend this event, you really should. Meeting these men and women of the Hall of Fame and playing a round of golf with them, was an experience I will never forget.
