Deuce Takes Part In Minicamp

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

RB Deuce McAllister (knee) took part in about 30 percent of the repetitions today. CB Mike McKenzie (knee), S Josh Bullocks (knee), and rookie DT DeMario Pressley (foot) did not participate. DE Will Smith took part as expected as well.
“I wanted to be team guy and be here for my teammates,” said Smith, who faced fines if he was not present for the minicamp. “My main goal is to win a Super Bowl this year. I wanted to be here and help the team out.”
It’s good to hear Deuce is back in action. The team sorely missed him when he [...]

Will Smith To Report To Minicamp

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: None Yet

DE Will Smith will reportedly take part in this weekend’s minicamp after skipping prior voluntary workouts organized team activity sessions. Smith, 27, is in the final year of his rookie contact.

“Obviously, Will has been discussing and is interested in a new contract,” Segal said Thursday. “He told me he will be at the minicamp and doesn’t want to miss the time to work to get better and maintain his goal of attaining a Super Bowl win.”

His agent, Joel Segal, is also the agent for Marques Colston, who is in the final year of his rookie contract as well. It’s hard [...]

Brees 2006 Top Signing

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

In an article on NFL.com naming the best free agent signings since free agency began in 1993, Drew Brees was the pick for 2006. It was amazing how at the time many people believed the Saints would use the #2 pick that offseason on a quarterback but instead they went and signed an already proven player. The Dolphins are the ones who Saints fans should thank as instead they went and traded a second round pick for Daunte Culpepper when they were in a better position to land Brees. They were more concerned with Brees’ shoulder than they were of [...]

Charles Grant Speaks

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: None Yet

DE Charles Grant spoke to the media for the first time this weekend regarding his charges for involuntary manslaughter in the state of Georgia. Grant was defiant in claiming his innocence (surprise) and spoke about a few other things that made very little sense.

“I worked 29 years to get to where I’m at; at 29 years old, that came with a lot of ups and downs. I have a lot of stuff that has been on my shoulders. Like I said before, I’m a warrior. Warriors are born. Some people, you have to turn them into that. I stand for [...]

Willie Roaf to Enter Saints Hall of Fame

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: None Yet

Former Saints OT Willie Roaf is set to enter the Saints Hall of Fame on Friday. Roaf has made eleven Pro Bowl appearances (seven as a Saint) in his career. He was named to the NFL 1990’s All-Decade team as well.
Willie may have been the best Saints player of all-time. Yes, that may be a little surprising but the team has never had a player that dominated a position like he did. He will be elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame surely in 2011 and he would be the first true Saints player to make the Hall of Fame.

Charles Grant Indicted

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

DE Charles Grant has been indicted for involuntary manslaughter stemming from the incident Superbowl weekend in Georgia.
Grant, who was stabbed in the neck during the fracas, was charged by an Early County grand jury that also charged Laquient Macklin with felony murder and feticide in the shooting death of Korynda Reed, 23. Reed died after being taken to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, after the fight early Feb. 3.
Wow. I have always been happy that the Saints haven’t had an off-the-field incident such as this one in recent memory. Now this comes up. Wasn’t Charles the victim? It’s too early [...]

Dan Morgan Retires

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Breaking News, Saints | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

In a surprising move, LB Dan Morgan retired today before even playing a snap as a Saint.
“When we signed Dan, he was committed to making a fresh start, and he was making every effort to rehabilitate the leg injury that he suffered last year,” Coach Sean Payton said in the team’s statement. “But it wasn’t responding as well as he had hoped it would. We wish him well in his continued recovery, and he will be remembered for the excellent player he was during his career.”
That is rough for Morgan. He was a solid player during his time with the [...]

Grading The 2005 Draft

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Draft, NFL, Saints | COMMENTS: None Yet

I stumbled over a good article at our good friends at Arrowhead Addict, where they graded the 2005 draft. So being the thief that I am, I might as well give it a shot as well.
Man doesn’t 2005 seem like a century ago. This was the final year of the Jim Haslett era and I sure hoped I never had to talk about that era again. The way this draft went pretty much sums up numerous recent drafts for the Saints: One very good pick with little else. Now let’s go through each pick:
Round 1: Pick 13 Jammal Brown, OT
This [...]

Horn Wants Out of Atlanta

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Saints | COMMENTS: None Yet

Former Saints WR Joe Horn is reportedly asking out of Atlanta because of playing time concerns after the Falcons went with youngster Laurent Robinson opposite Roddy White after the mini-camp that just completed. Horn was the “man” during his long stay here in New Orleans but then signed with the division rival Falcons last offseason and failed to contribute much last season.

“They’re going with the younger guys and I don’t have a problem with that, if that’s the course they’ve chosen,” Horn said. “I want to have an opportunity to play with a team that needs a veteran to play [...]
