Three young Saints players poised to break out in 2023
The New Orleans Saints have a lot of veteran talent. The Saints also have some youngsters with high ceilings, and these three are poised to shatter them.
The roster of the New Orleans Saints features a lot of talent at the top that have been around the block in the NFL, and they provide tremendous leadership, that's allowed the Saints to stay competitive in these "down years". That isn't saying they don't have a lot of young guns at their disposal though.
The Saints do have spring chickens in their locker room, with some already broken out a tad, with others set to shatter the ceilings of potential currently above them.
Here are our picks for the three young Saints players poised to break out during the 2023 NFL season.
First Saints breakout candidate: Tight End Juwan Johnson
While the Saints brought in Foster Moreau via free agency, and Lucas Krull has reportedly been shining to an extent, the Saints still have confidence that Juwan Johnson will be their number one tight end moving forward, and that he has all the tools to thrive there.
The Saints re-signed Johnson to a new two-year deal, which prevented him from becoming a restricted free agent in the offseason, which speaks volumes on how much the Saints value him.
It's easy to see why. In 2022, Johnson had something of a coming out party, catching 42 passes for 508 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers are solid for any tight end, but when you consider the revolving door at quarterback Johnson and the Saints were dealing with, they are all the more impressive.
Now with Derek Carr under center, Johnson is in prime position to fully break out, regardless of how many bodies are in the tight end room, whether or not Taysom Hill is one of them.
