Jimmy Graham just as excited about homecoming reunion as Saints fans are
The New Orleans Saints bringing back a franchise legend is a feel-good story that should bring happiness to Saints fans and maybe even a little excitement.
The New Orleans Saints have decided to bring back the greatest tight end in the history of the franchise on a one-year deal, and it appears that Saints fans are just as excited about it as he is.
Jimmy Graham is without a doubt the best tight end the Saints have ever had. Perhaps rather unfortunately, given the recent dominance of other tight ends this decade from guys like Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce, sometimes Graham gets a bit lost in the shuffle. The thing is though, before those two came into their own, and after the twilights of Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, Graham was just as dominant as anyone.
Now, he's back in the Big Easy to play for the Saints. While the initial announcement brought excitement from fans, the legendary tight end appears to share the sentiment.
As for his role on the field, it'll be interesting to see the dynamic, even if he is expected to take a backseat to rising starter Juwan Johnson. The Saints also brought in hometown boy Foster Moreau, who is familiar with Derek Carr, then there's Taysom Hill, who is still technically listed as tight end.
Still, in today's pass-happy NFL, you can never have too many tight ends, especially ones that can cause mismatches. Graham may no longer be a spring chicken, but that doesn't mean he isn't still tough to deal with. Graham noted in his press conference that he's "still like 6'7" in the red zone." Spot the lie.
The return of Jimmy Graham to the New Orleans Saints is something that all fans should appreciate. He isn't what he once was, but at the very least he is still another weapon for Derek Carr to potentially utilize, and that's nothing to sneeze at.
