Look, we all know the Pro Bowl has become the butt of a lot of jokes around NFL circles, and has been trending that direction for pretty much decades now. Seriously, see if you can find old Pro Bowl clips from like the 1960s and just watch in awe. It's night and day. Still, that's the game (or "games" nowadays) itself. Being named a Pro Bowl player is still a resume and legacy builder for players, and up until recently the 2023 New Orleans Saints only had one player to receive the accolade. Now that the Super Bowl matchup is set, the Saints have two.

When the voting was closed, Rashid Shaheed was the lone Saints player voted as a Pro Bowler. He made the NFC roster as the return specialist, so technically was the only "true" Pro Bowl player the 2023 Saints roster had. So that's something.

Anyway, another sort of wonky aspect of the Pro Bowl is that ever since they moved the festivities to the weekend before the Super Bowl, even more players drop out than before, and even that felt like overkill. The fact that the two best teams are effectively ineligible really drives the point home of what the Pro Bowl has become.

With that said, Fred Warner of the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers now cannot attend, so Demario Davis of the Saints will be taking his place. The fact that Davis was named second team All-Pro (for the fourth straight year an argument can be made that he should have been voted to the Pro Bowl already, but it is what it is.

So there you have it, for whatever it's worth, the 2023 New Orleans Saints now featured two Pro Bowl players on their roster in Rashid Shaheed, and now Demario Davis. Do with that what you will.
