Saints player No. 2: Kaden Elliss
The Saints released their first depth chart ahead of Saturday’s game, and it has Kaden Elliss listed as the first SAM linebacker alongside Demario Davis and Pete Werner.
Elliss will get plenty of snaps this season in a severely weakened Saints linebacker corps, one that saw Kiko Alonso quickly retire and Kwon Alexander leave in free agency.
The 2019 seventh-rounder can start his fourth season in the league on the right foot with a dominant showing against the Texans, having already attracted positive reviews in training camp so far.
Davis clearly stands out as the most elite defender in the linebacker unit, and hopefully his talents rub off on the young and unproven bucks like Elliss, Zack Baun, and D’Marco Jackson.
Elliss started just one game last season and played in 13 total, recording a modest 17 tackles and one sack in that span. If both he and Werner can experience a major improvement in their game, the future of the Saints’ linebacker could be set.
Keep an eye on how Elliss performs against Davis Mills and the Texans’ passing attack.
