Starting OL: LT Trevor Penning, LG Andrus Peat, C Erik McCoy, RG Cesar Ruiz, RT Ryan Ramczyk
What was once the strength of the New Orleans Saints’ offense could now be looked at as the biggest weakness. Losing Terron Armstead was a brutal blow and the Saints are replacing him with a rookie, which means some growing pains are to be expected.
Trevor Penning is the aforementioned rookie and the Saints thought enough of him to spend a first-round pick on him. He played at a smaller school but so did Armstead and that turned out all right. He might have some rookie woes but if Penning pans out, New Orleans will have their left tackle of the future for the next half-decade.
At left guard is Andrus Peat, who has been hit and miss. The Saints made the mistake of signing him to a bad extension and they’re stuck with him until at least next offseason.
Erik McCoy is entering the final year of his rookie deal and he’s the anchor of the o-line. When he missed five games last year, the o-line performed poorly without him snapping the ball.
Cesar Ruiz has been a bust to this point of his career but he still has a chance to turn it around. If the right guard can put together a decent season, there’s still a possibility for the team to pick up his fifth-year option.
Ryan Ramczyk is the best player on the line and he was rewarded with a contract extension. He was banged up last year but the NOLA o-line is better when Ramczyk is manning that right tackle spot.
