It might seem strange to put a first-round pick as a “best-kept” secret. After all, aren’t first-round picks the best in their class?

Well, after one year of seeing Payton Turner in action, he’s definitely a best-kept secret.

First and foremost, no one really expected him to be a first-round pick last year but the Saints had no problem making him one. Second, he appeared in just five games and eventually found his way onto IR.

The good news with Turner is that he’s been cleared to return to the field and the only way for him to go at this point is up. He didn’t look bad in his few games last season, grading out at 64.6 by PFF.

Naturally, fans expect more from first-round picks. Turner didn’t live up to the hype. This year, however, Turner should be ready to round the corner and become the defender New Orleans was expecting him to be when they made him a first-round pick.

Turner showed enough potential in just his five games that fans should be excited to see him contributing to the defense this year. Those around the NFL, however, might have forgotten about him after his small sample size in 2021.
