Saints WR from 2014-2016

New Orleans spent the 20th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft on Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks, who, like Wes Chandler, only spent three years with the team. He played incredibly well during the 2015 and 2016 seasons but Cooks had an attitude problem and that’s why he ended up getting traded.

During that 2015 season, Cooks finished with 84 receptions for 1,138 yards and nine touchdowns through 16 games. In 2016, he had 78 catches for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns through 16 games.

It was hard to see Cooks’ production leave following the 2016 season but he was always running his mouth and it was a distraction in the locker room. He was traded to the Patriots where he once again went over the 1,000-yard mark.

Cooks landed with the Rams for the next two years and had a career-high 1,204 yards in the 2018 season. After a down year in 2019, Cooks then joined the Texans and has had over 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons.

The fact that Cooks isn’t even 30 years old as of this writing and has played for four different teams shows that his production wasn’t the problem. In his eight seasons in the NFL, he’s failed to go over the 1,000-yard mark just twice.

While Cooks isn’t remembered for his time as a Saint, he’s still 13th all-time in receiving yards.
