3. Abram Smith
The third straight UDFA to appear on the list is Abram Smith, who is arguably the UDFA fans are most excited about. Smith rushed for over 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns last year at Baylor and averaged 6.2 yards per carry.
With Alvin Kamara set to miss six games due to suspension, that’s going to create some mystery as far as who will be helping out Mark Ingram during that time. Ingram’s obviously going to be the top option with Kamara unavailable but who will also help out?
Smith appears to be a good option but he’ll have to battle it out with Tony Jones Jr. and Dwayne Washington. Jones was last summer’s darling whose top-notch performance in the preseason earned him a spot on the roster and sent Latavius Murray packing. Washington, on the other hand, has mostly been a special teams guy throughout his career.
If Smith makes it onto the roster, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising to see him emerge as a true weapon for the offense.
