3. Baker Mayfield

Similar to Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield is currently with the same team that he spent the 2021 season with. The Browns made it clear how they felt about a future with Mayfield when they threw $230 million guaranteed at Deshaun Watson, who is still facing charges of sexual assault.

Mayfield obviously won’t want to play another snap with the Browns even if Watson isn’t able to play at all this year and if he is an option later on down the road, would the Saints want to try to add him?

Mayfield might not have had a great ending to his time in Cleveland but make no mistake — He was the best quarterback that franchise had in a very, very long time. He wasn’t a superstar by any means but he helped the Browns make the playoffs in the 2020 season and that was the first time they had been there in quite some time.

This past year, Mayfield was struggling with injuries and played through them during the year. He finished the season with 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Not stellar numbers by any means but considering the circumstances, it could have been way worse.

I don’t realistically see Mayfield as an option for the Saints but if he isn’t traded this year, perhaps they could make a run at him next offseason. Just look at what happened to Mitchell Trubisky this past season; He spent one year in Buffalo as a backup and then teams were suddenly wanting to sign him as a starter again. The same could happen for Baker Mayfield.
