11. Mario Bates (2,554)
Saints RB from 1994-1997
The Saints spent a second-round pick in the 1994 NFL Draft on Arizona State’s Mario Bates and while he only played in New Orleans for four years, he’s still right outside the top 10 in rushing yards.
Bates had 579 rushing yards and six touchdowns as a rookie in 1994 and had his best season during year 2 in 1995. That year saw Bates put up 951 rushing yards and seven scores and that was the only time in his career where he had 1,000+ scrimmage yards.
His numbers declined the next two years and he wasn’t with the team after the 1997 season. He played with the Cardinals in 1998 and 1999 and tallied just 132 yards in 32 games and three starts.
Bates’ final year in the league was in 2000, which he spent with Detroit. He was out of the league after that but still is 11th all-time in rushing yards in Saints history.
