Starting OC: Erik McCoy
Backups: Cesar Ruiz
As we saw last season, if Erik McCoy goes down, the offensive line gets shuffled around quite a bit. It forces Cesar Ruiz to kick it inside to center and play whoever is available at right guard. Last year, McCoy missed five games and during that time, Ruiz played center while Calvin Throckmorton slid in at right guard.
When McCoy is healthy, however, he is one of the best centers in the league.
There’s not any depth behind him other than Ruiz, who isn’t very good at center. That’s why the hope is that McCoy can replicate the first two years of his career and stay healthy.
The former second-round pick out of Texas A&M is entering a contract year and if the Saints are smart, they’d be trying to work out an extension for McCoy already. He’s that good.
