The secondary for the New Orleans Saints should look as follows: Marshon Lattimore (CB), Paulson Adebo (CB), Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (NB), Marcus Maye (FS), and Tyrann Mathieu (SS).
The Saints lost both of their starting safeties from the 2021 season, yet they may have actually upgraded the unit instead. Marcus Maye will replace Marcus Williams as the team’s starting free safety while Tyrann Mathieu will replace the retired Malcolm Jenkins at strong safety.
Marshon Lattimore will obviously anchor the primary cornerback role while Paulson Adebo is likely the favorite to land the second corner job over Bradley Roby.
Lattimore is a multiple-time Pro Bowl corner, but there’s a potential suspension looming for him at some point this season as well. Situations like this make me happy that the Saints have such great depth in guys like Roby, P.J. Williams, and Alontae Taylor so that if someone were to go down or get suspended, NOLA can plug the next guy right in.
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is going to be the nickel back, as he’s already proven he’s one of the best in the NFL at that position. CJGJ is as physical as they come, and his aggressive demeanor strikes fear in the hearts of opponents. I’m ecstatic about this New Orleans secondary.
Do you agree that this is what the Saints’ starting lineup will look like in 2022?
