Starting Tight Ends: Taysom Hill & Adam Trautman

The tight end room is interesting this year. There’s a nice balance of speed, talent, and pure blocking but nobody can do all three consistently. The best balance of the three has to be Taysom Hill, but I’m not sure how to feel about Hill being the full-time starting tight end.

One side of me loves Hill’s ability to make plays from the tight end position, but the other side of me is nervous about the lack of experience. Hill has athleticism, and he’s caught passes from the tight end position before, so he’s likely the favorite to play more snaps at the position if he can stay healthy and if Dennis Allen is serious about using him as a primary tight end.

If Hill isn’t the primary tight end, then we could see him split snaps with Adam Trautman, who’s already entering his third NFL season and has a lot to prove to the city of New Orleans. Trautman has been all hype to this point in his career, but a strong offseason could hold some hope in a bounce-back season in 2022.

All in all, I expect Taysom Hill and Adam Trautman to take over the primary work at the tight end position with guys like Nick Vannett and Juwan Johnson competing for backup work.
