TE4: Nick Vannett

The Saints signed Nick Vannett as a free agent last offseason and he missed a chunk of the season due to injury. He ended up with just nine catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.

It’s the lack of production from Vannett that will ding him this summer. Vannett didn’t do much in year 1 in New Orleans so if Juwan Johnson is going to make a bigger splash, that’s the route the team should go.

The Rest: J.P. Holtz, Lucas Krull

The remaining two tight ends on the roster have their work cut out for them this summer but it’s not an impossible path to the 53-man roster.

J.P. Holtz joined the Saints during free agency. He’s never done much during his career with all of his production coming in 2019 when he was with the Bears. He had seven catches for 91 yards that year.

Lucas Krull was a UDFA out of Pittsburgh who had an awesome year with Kenny Pickett as his quarterback last season. Krull finished with 451 yards and six touchdowns, which would be welcomed tight end numbers in the NOLA offense.

I’m intrigued by Krull. He has to be more impressive than Johnson, Vannett, and Holtz, which is certainly doable, but can he do it?
