The 2022 NFL Draft has come and gone. For the New Orleans Saints, it resulted in them adding five players but also signing 17 undrafted free agents.

Now that the draft is in the rearview mirror, we can go through each position and discuss how it looks as of now. Running back is a position that while the Saints didn’t address in the draft, they might have found a roster-worthy option in undrafted free agency.

We know how the top two positions will shake out but what about the rest of the running back depth chart? That’s what we’ll be going over in this write-up. We’ll start with the most obvious.

RB1: Alvin Kamara

While he’s likely going to serve a suspension due to an off-the-field situation, Alvin Kamara is the starting running back for the Saints. This is a surprise to no one.

Kamara, a third-round pick out of Tennessee in 2017, broke onto the scene immediately as a rookie, earning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. In every single season since he joined the league in 2017, Kamara has totaled no fewer than 1,330 yards from scrimmage. That’s damn impressive, especially considering he’s only appeared in all 16 games once (his rookie year).

While Kamara has never been a 1,000-yard rusher, he more than makes up for it with his pass-catching abilities. That’s why he’s so lethal for this offense and he’s going to be even more dangerous now that New Orleans has better receivers for Jameis Winston to throw to.
